Dear Diary, it has been 47 days since I last wrote to you…

We have a lot of catching up to do so let’s get right to the nitty gritty.

Rush Map Ends Sunday

And we’ve updated the Rush Map to 1.14.1!

Now that a stable 1.14.1 seems in the cards, and with our plugins getting updated (most of them anyway, more on that later) for compatibility, we find ourselves at the end of the road for yet another Rush Map. I’m sure when Microsoft starts putting out 1.15 a month from now we’ll have it available again. ?

Make sure that everything you plan on carrying over is on your person or in your enderchest by 11am EST Sunday morning. Nothing else you gathered on the Rush Map can make the trip. I will port your goodies over, once AquaNu is given a go to update, via my patented I AM YOU player data transfer method (basically I just copy your data onto my player file) and I will empty this out into a chest for you. I’ll reach out to you to see where you might want the chest to go.

In it’s place, we will be putting the official Minecraft 10th Anniversary map up and trying out some plugins in the meantime to see which ones will fit the bill for 1.14.1. That map will stay up for one week.

Updating AquaNu to 1.14.1

I know we are all anxiously awaiting this update, but we still have some plugins that are a bit behind, including:

  • Bottled XP
  • Treefeller
  • ItemRecycler
  • Ridables
  • TimedFly (aka /flymenu)
  • DoubleJump

We’ll be testing all our plugins on the 10th anniversary map once that is up. If we can all agree on alternatives or just plain old “doing without” for these plugins, and provided that the other plugins are up to snuff, we will look towards updating AquaNu sometime next weekend (likely Saturday, June 1).

New Bows at the Serverus Shack

If you haven’t noticed yet, we’ve replaced the entire wall of the Serverus Shack with fun new magic bows. Each one is 1000 SAMCoin and up to this point I hadn’t said exactly what each of them were, except to hint at it through their kitz names, but here’s what each of them do:

  • Fiyaz – Fire Bow (fire burst, area-of-effect burn)
  • Izez – Ice Bow (ice explosion, area-of-effect slow)
  • Acidz – Corrosive Bow (area-of-effect poison)
  • Zapz – Lightning Bow’lt (summons a lightning bolt)
  • TPz – Void Bow (teleports you to the arrow when it lands)
  • Threez – Trippple Bow (fires 3 arrows instead of one)
  • Gravz – Gravity Bow (attracts the target to your location)
  • Boomz – Explosive Bow (area-of-effect damage)
  • Rumblez – Earthquake Bow (summons a shockwave)

Patreon patrons on Gold and Awesome tiers can now enchant their special bows.

We’ll be swapping out bows every now and then for new ones. Grab yours while you can at the Serverus Shack today!

New Calendar

Are you sick and tired of missing events because you missed a post on the Facebook group? Well now you can just go to this page and take a look at what we’ve got going on for the month, as well as upcoming birthdays. I promise you we will try to keep it updated ?

We’ve Gone Double Secret

Not only are Secret Beta items now in your backpack (if you are on Awesome Tier) but on top of that, we’ve also changed the Facebook group from Closed to Secret. There was a practical reason for this but also I’ve been wanting to do this for some time now.

The reality is, for a while it has been rare for a person outside of this group, with no connection to anyone inside the group already, to pass our verification test. That being the case, we’re very happy with the caliber of players we have in the group already, and would rather lean on the side of exclusivity than risk having to deal with unvetted players.

People already in the group may invite others to the group without issue, and I prefer that the players hold the power of this server’s growth, since I trust you guys to pick people like yourselves to play with us.

Quick Notes

If you’ve read this far, you might still be interested to know the following quick tidbits:

  • KeepInventory is now OFF (please be careful!)
  • ItemRecycler list of allowed items has been updated
  • Command of the Week on Sunday will be SuperTrails
  • The stream on Monday will be located on the 10th anniversary map
  • Remember if you need some flying time, you can buy it with /flymenu

Thanks!
~ Serverus

Hey everyone! WordPress has this new drop cap thing so I’m totally abusing it, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about. It’s almost the end of the month and so it is time to discuss what we built and how we built it.

Steam Run

We had an amazing Steam Run at the beginning of January, we certainly overdid it a little bit! With a 200×200 area filled to the teeth with diamond blocks, hoppers, droppers and of course, Floor Cake™, we ushered folks through a veritable smorgasbord of loot, including 115 steam keys, split between two nights. Click the button below to see a recap of the event.

Upcoming Game Nights

Since we had a good experience with splitting our Steam Run event into two parts, we will be doing the same for other game nights and competitions going forward, unless otherwise noted. This will allow as many people as possible to attend the event.

As before, Awesome Tier members will be able to participate in both days of the event, since one of their perks is guaranteed game night entry.

For February, we will be bringing back the Build Wars challenge. This time you will be tasked with building the biggest and best snowman that you can. Prizes will include a $30 Amazon gift card, SAMCoin, and more!

Build Wars 5: A New Beginning

The Banner Saga

Have you seen our fancy new banner? Well it gets even better, as we’re letting YOU take control of the MOTD! Just go to http://smaws.me/motd and if you have access to Mineconnect on SomeAwesome.com, you can spend 2000 points for a guaranteed 24 hours of your personal custom message. Just keep in mind that I know how you guys think so I DID put tracking in there that tells me who changed it, so no funny business!

1.14 Preparation

We all know it’s coming, so now is a good time as any to remind people how we do transitions to new versions of the game.

It’s worth noting that we won’t be moving over to 1.14 the day that it releases, for a couple of reasons: Day-One versions of Minecraft are always notoriously buggy. Spigot will need to catch up, this will take a few days at least. Other plugins we use will also need to update  Luckily all of these things shouldn’t take nearly as long as they did with 1.13, which was a huge change from 1.12, so even though we will have to wait just a little longer, it shouldn’t be too bad.

Once we are ready to update, we will clone the server, at which point I will ask everyone to play on the cloned server for a bit and make sure their stuff is in order. We will give everyone a week to get on and check their stuff. Once this week is up, if you haven’t been able to get on, we’re sorry but we will have to proceed anyway (you should be fine though).

We’re really looking forward to pandas!

Region Commands

Have you ever found a nice plot of land to claim but can’t remember if you’re in another person’s property? Just use /region info and find out who owns the spot you’re standing on, and additional info on that region. Never go uninformed again!

But the really great thing (for us admins anyway) is that now you can add your own members to your owned claims. That’s right, just use the following command to add as many members as you want without the help of an admin. Worldguard is helpful again YAAAAAAAY!

/region addmember <your region name> <player name>

And yes, just in case someone has overstayed their welcome, you have the removemember version as well…

New Nunu News

We’ve ordered more flash drives for Nunu so if you missed the first round, click the button below and grab yours now!

Patreon Updates

Just a friendly reminder that Patreon will be charged here on the 1st of February, so if you need to hop off for a month, or you want to upgrade your tier, then it needs to be done by the 31st.

In case you forgot, here’s the current list of rewards for being on each tier:

Happy Easter Minecraft Family! Just wanted to announce that the holiday area is all decorated and ready for Easter.

Stop by and see EB, our holiday villager for some souvenirs and pick up your limited edition Easter 2018 map.

Don’t forget pictures with the Easter Bunny!

Then, join us on Saturday, March 31st for our annual Easter “egg” hunt! If you’re new to the server let me fill you in on this Minecraft twist to an old tradition. Since there weren’t any special egg blocks that could be used as Easter eggs, we decided to start hiding player heads. Since then decorative egg blocks have been introduced but we’ve always had such a great time with the head hunt, we’ve continued the hunt! So join our Facebook event for date and time details and we’ll see you then!

Happy Easter everyone!

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone we love in Minecraft! We have a really fun themed holiday area for you to celebrate. Come check out, the Portal of Love!

Make your way through the maze of portals to visit GLaDOS inside the companion cube. While there pick up some holiday fun stuff, and your special edition holiday map!

Just another fun way for us to show you how much we love you all!

The costumes are put away and the turkey has been eaten so that means it’s time for one of our favorite holidays on the server, Christmas! It’s actually time for a lot of winter holidays, and we have treats for all!

Join us on Dec 12th as we light the menorah for the first night of Hanukkah. Remember to get your holiday gift for each day.

Have a blessed Yule on Dec 21st as we celebrate the winter solstice together.

Kwanzaa begins on Dec 26th where we will begin lighting the candles of the kinara in celebration of family and the first harvests.

We’re not even done! Join us in our first snowman building contest! Pick a plot and get creative! Builds will be voted on by fellow players and announced after Christmas.

But the big holiday on the server has always been Christmas and we have a lot going on!

Stop by the fireplace to hang your Christmas stocking. Grab one from one of the command blocks in red or green and name it using the anvils provided. Using an item frame hang them up around the fireplace and on Christmas day you will be able to trade your stocking in for a special wish item which could be anything including an extra backpack row, a set of command blocks, or a set of power tools.

Don’t forget to stop by and have your picture taken with Santa!

Be sure to sign up for Secret Santa! Drop your name into the hopper and receive an entry for another member who you get to spoil with holiday cheer!

While you’re there, take a special trip into Christmas town, a beautiful town full of Christmas spirit! Originally this was a build on Main made by a few players who were in the holiday spirit, but the Minecraft biome update changed their once festive winter wonderland into rainy disappointment. Obviously their spirits were crushed and it never got to live up to it’s potential. We’re happy to say we have recreated it on NuNu and with the help of original creator qkat19 there are even some new additions! Come see Santa’s workshop, the ice castle, have a snowball fight, and so much more!

Back at the holiday area be sure to visit Santa and his elf for some Christmas goodies, and as with all the holidays this season, don’t forget to pick up your special edition holiday maps and banners!

It’s a good time of year to let you all know how much we love and appreciate you and all you do for the server. From your beautiful builds, to your friendly greetings, and neighborly attitudes, it is always a pleasure seeing you on and knowing all the wonderful friendships that have been made here. Happy holidays everyone!

If you’ve been trying to breed villagers lately, you’re probably just as frustrated as I was! I’ve done the grunt work and breeding is so much easier! No more 46 doors and having to have a farmer… read on!

Here’s what you’ll need to build your villager breeding area.

(This is not exact quantities of what you’ll need)

Step 1: Set the breeding grounds:

You want to set up a 9×9 garden area. Place your water source in the middle and begin to till your farm land out 4 blocks in each direction. Till the rest of the area and plant carrots (potatoes may also work, I happened to used carrots). The double cobblestone fence is to keep zombies from reaching your villagers and reinfecting or killing them.

Place a lily pad over the water source and a block above surrounded by torches to keep mobs from spawning and help the plants grow.

The hardest part is getting your villager parents. For this you may want to build your zombie villager quarantine to trap and cure them, and then release them into your new breeding ground. (it’s all very immoral, but it’s a just game right?)

Once you have cured two villagers be sure to feed them. Toss carrots at them to make them happier. Pick a spot in the garden (doesn’t have to be specific) and dig down 5 blocks (be sure you’re in a safe area with no lava underneath you). Once you’ve gone 5 blocks down, dig 3 blocks out and place your three doors. Climb your way back up and place a glass block over the hole.

Breeding may take a bit of time, but the more you feed and trade with the villagers the more their willingness will increase. A farmer villager is a bonus, but not necessary. I was able to successfully breed a Weapon Smith and Leatherworker for this tutorial, and in my survival game I was able to breed two Nitwits outside of the pen, so the types of villagers really doesn’t matter.

And with any luck you’ll have babies in no time!

Please just keep in mind that you should not have more than one of each type of villagers for personal villages. Once you’re done breeding, please kill off the extra villagers you have to avoid lag. Good luck everyone!

Here is the video tutorial that helped me:
