Extra Life 2019

We’re a little late to the party this year, but that’s right friends, we ARE in fact participating in Extra Life 2019! We promise a full day of fun with a brand new custom challenge map, but first…let us tell you what Extra Life is, and why we do this.

Extra Life is a 24 hour charity event that raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network, a network that raises funds for treatments, research and education for 170 children’s hospitals throughout the US and Canada. As parents you know there is nothing more frightening than your child being in the hospital, it’s comforting to know that there are charities like this working hard to help our kids.

We suffered our own loss as a group in 2015 when we lost our dear friend Jackson Wilson to Ewing Sarcoma, which is a rare form of cancer that mostly affects children between the ages of 10 to 20. As a part of our gaming community, Jackson was a big advocate for community projects. He was always one of the first people to welcome a new player and help get them started. He set up “Helping Hands” to aid other players if they needed help terraforming their land or collecting materials. He loved history and began working on a project to chronicle the server and group history. He adored Halloween and was naturally know as the Pumpkin King. When Jackson informed us that he was sick. he told us that playing on the server during treatments helped get him through some of the hard times. He knew he had friends from all over who were rooting for him, and doing whatever they could to keep him company while he was undergoing treatments. We celebrated Jackson when he was in remission, and realized that even though it was mainly through a computer screen we had this wonderful community to share our lives with, and how lucky we were to have each other. Unfortunately the cancer came back and took Jackson from us. His presence is ever felt on any new map we start, with the Event Museum he started on Main, the Jackson_Wilson Memorial Library we built on NuNu in his honor, and the Jackson_Wilson Memorial Highway on AquaNu. He was a beloved member of the community and a true friend. We won’t forget him, and we dedicate our participation in Extra Life to him.

For Extra Life 2019 we bring you another custom challenge map built by our dedicated and talented admins. Skyblock is always a fan favorite, and we love doing it, so we’re bringing it back…with a twist! Villagers and Pillagers! We couldn’t leave out one of my personal favorites in combat updates. The addition of Pillagers and the new villager trading system offers a whole new list of challenges and excitement that should keep you busy for at LEAST 24 hours! Welcome to Villager Skyblock (it’s not our most clever name, but if you follow our streams then you know October has been kicking our butts! We’re a bit brain fried)

How it works:

When you log on you will be at the spawn island. There will be no reason to come back to this island as trading is not permitted. Teams of one to three members will be assigned to their own island before the event starts. Once on the map, go to the hut and you can either visit your Extra Life Villager, or spawn straight to your island. All command blocks are team specific so you will not be able to visit other players’ islands.

Extra Life Villager:

As mentioned before, each island has it’s very own villager. This villager is very special as he will not be accepting your stack of cobblestone. Instead he only accepts a very special “Life Crystal” that can only be obtained through experience OR (this is the best part) in the spirit of the charity we are doing this all for, by donating to the Some Awesome Minecraft’s Extra Life donation page! For every $1 dollar donation you pledge you will receive 1 precious Life Crystal to trade with your villager. Did you lose your bucket? Step on a seedling? Your tree didn’t drop a sapling? Dug up all your grass? Your villager has them and more, but they won’t be cheap. The Some Awesome team is trying to raise $1,000 this year and every dollar you donate to the group donation page goes straight towards the team goal, and 100% of that goes to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. There can not be a better way to turn a day of fun and a few bucks into a good cause.
Note: If you already donated to your own page, or to a fellow team member, we will honor those and give you Life Crystals for those donations. However, any donations made on game day MUST be made to the Some Awesome Minecraft donation page.

Extra Life 2018 Challenge

Welcome to Extra Life 2018! We’ve got a brand new challenge map for you, courtesy of admin dancingn27 *applause*

But first, let me tell you why we do this…

What is Extra Life?
Extra Life is a 24 hour gaming charity event that raises money for the children’s hospitals within the Children’s Miracle Network. We will be playing in dedication of our dear friend Jackson_Wilson whom we lost back in 2015 after his battle with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that mostly affects children between the ages of 10 to 20. Jackson was an amazing friend to everyone on the server. He was always so helpful to everyone, and very welcoming to new players. He often organized group projects that had to do with reusing and recycling in-game materials, and helping others. He was also our group historian, and had been in the process of chronicling our group’s history before he became too ill to continue.

Losing Jackson was very hard on us as a group. It was our first experience with the loss of one of our players turned friend, and proved just how close a group of internet friends can become despite the distance between us. Jackson’s presence can still be felt even on our newest map, AquaNu where the Jackson Memorial Highway runs through the nether network. Little things like that continue to keep his spirit alive and with us. We remember him the most this time of year as autumn was his favorite season, and Halloween the holiday he loved best of all. We’re proud to dedicate this year’s event to him by donating to the hospital he spoke so highly of while receiving treatment.

2018 Challenge Map: Waterworld

After stripping the planet bare of valuable resources and the melting of the polar ice caps, most of the globe is underwater. Some humans have survived, and even fewer still have adapted to the ocean by creating their own land. You have been granted a plot of the ocean and a bit of land to start. Can you survive? Welcome to WaterWorld!

How it works:
You will spawn at the Command center where you will have access to your plot. You must follow the following rules and complete the following tasks to conquer WaterWorld.

Teams:
There are only 20 personal plots in the complex. Each plot can hold a team of 1-3 players. If all 20 plots are occupied and we still have people wanting to join the challenge we may ask teams that have not reached the 3 person maximum to offer a spot to any additional challengers. This way everyone gets a chance to play and contribute.

From your command block at the command center you will spawn on an unlit island that contains exactly one stack of grass/dirt. You will find no more dirt or grass available in your plot so be careful!

The only CB you will find in your plot will give you access to your own personal Extra Life villager. No other player will be able to access your plot or your villager hut. Anything within your plot is free game for you until you hit bedrock. You will not be able to access any blocks outside of your plot.
Do not climb over or through side walls to other player plots. Doing so will result in immediate disqualification.

Throughout your designated plot, there will be hidden chests filled with items you will need to fulfill your requirements. You will not be able to find items anywhere else on the map. There are no additional ores or stones hidden beneath the sand so use your precious few resources wisely.
Hint: they are NOT underground below the water table.

Extra Life 2015: Skyblock Challenge

Every year our community participates in a charity event known as Extra Life which is a 24 hour gaming marathon to help raise money for the care and support of sick children in hospitals within the Children’s Miracle Network.

Since 2013, we have hosted creative theme builds for the community to work on during the event. Together we have built an Amusement Park, and a Mini City project as we raised money for charity.

This year however, we’ve decided to change things up a bit. Nothing excites this group more than a challenge map, and we all have one community favorite in particular that we keep coming back to. That of course is Skyblock.

If you’ve never played Skyblock before, it is a small floating island above a void with limited supplies to get you started. Playing by yourself or as a team you must transform your tiny little dirt block into a livable island.

Here’s the thing though, previous challenges have gone on as long as two weeks, but this is Extra Life so this one is special. This map will only be available for the 24 hour event! The list of challenges is long so some of you may be sweating that detail (/me raises hand) while others are thinking “oh good, I’ll have time to build two”. Either way we can’t think of a better way to devote an entire day towards gaming than with a little friendly competition, and what better game than Minecraft and what better map than Skyblock?

For those of you who may be intimidated by the idea of this map, I encourage you to try it. Even if you aren’t playing to win, the map is so much more than just beating your neighbors. If you think building on the server is rewarding, wait until you see what you have created from virtually nothing. It is so much fun to challenge yourself (and you’ll never appreciate cobblestone more). So please, step outside your comfort zone and join us on November 7th at 8 o’clock AM Eastern Time as we play together and raise some money for this amazing charity!

Rules and Other Important Details:

Welcome to Extra life 2015: Skyblock Challenge! We have created a custom Skyblock map for you, but this isn’t a map you’ve played before, and some of the game rules have changed so pay attention. One change you’ll notice right away is that your cobblestone generators have already been set up for you. Nearly everyone who has attempted to make one for the first time has without fail, turned their lava into obsidian. We’ve allowed one “Get Out of Jail Free” card and replaced it for the teams once, but this time we just decided to make it easier on everyone and set you up. Another big game change is that there are no command blocks back to the main hub. The only way back to spawn is if you die but since keep Inventory will be OFF we wouldn’t recommend it. You may think that would make this map Mission Impossible considering how easy it is to die with valuable items on you, but we have a gift. Each individual island has it’s own XP shop with a very special villager inside who is willing to sell you valuable “lost” items that otherwise may have knocked you out of the competition. See, we love you 😉

Rules:

Teams can be 1-3 players.
Do not purposely jump off the island to regenerate your health.
Do not attempt to make a bridge to the Island Hub, neighboring islands, or map edge. Each individual island is roughly 2,000 minecraft blocks away from the other. If you are found attempting to bridge islands or the other two areas stated you will be disqualified and removed from the whitelist.
Your island may extend up to 100 blocks out from the bedrock block marking the center in any of the 4 compass point directions. You are not restricted as far as height is concerned.

Notes:

Anvils and enchanting tables will not be provided for you. You can purchase both, as well as a brewstand, from your villager for 3 Life Crystals a piece.
KeepInventory is set to false so you will lose your xp when you die so be careful and use “shift”!
A pair of each animals spawn eggs are available in the chests provided for you, but if you should lose them you may purchase extra from your villager for 5 Life Crystals a piece.
If your tree fails to produce saplings the admins will not give you saplings. You may purchase them from your villager **Helpful tip** Natural leaf decay seems to increase your odds of receiving saplings. A little patience goes a long way.
If you lose the sand, gravel, or cacti from your sand islands the admins will not replace them. You may purchase replacement blocks from your villager **Helpful tip** Approaching the sand islands from below is the safest option.
There will be no nether on this map. Do not attempt to create a portal or you will be disqualified and removed from the whitelist.
If for any reason you lose your snow blocks they will not be replaced by the admins. You may purchase replacement blocks from your villager.

Important Note: Your XP shop command black is preset to teleport you back to a specific coordinate. Be sure to leave a block or create a safe spawn area to teleport back to once you start moving your island around.

MiniBuilders Summer 2015 – The Boat Challenge

Welcome to the Mini Builders Summer 2015! Now that June has begun, we have a fun summer planed out for little ones on the server.

If you are not familiar with Mini Builders, take a look at its history. We are proud of mini builders. It is a great way for the kids to learn more about Minecraft and about each other! These kids are pretty creative.

So welcome to the inaugural Summer 2015 Mini Builders’ Build. A boat challenge. Similar to the previous boat challenge, each builder will pick out a boat lot and make a boat out any materials they choose. The challenge will run from June 22nd-June 30th. Here are some rules you must follow:

One boat plot per child
Do not tamper with another mini builder’s boat, this will disqualify you.
Do not explore past the Mini Builder’s area.
All materials are not supplied and must be acquired. See note below for more information.
Adults may visit the Mini Builder’s area but they are NOT allowed to help.

There will be some changes for Mini Builders moving forward:

There is now a Mini Builder’s vault. This vault is accessible by all. People may donate to this vault as they see fit and all materials can be used by any Mini Builder at any time. At no time should there be requests to fill the Mini Builder vault to anyone in the community.
All materials used for challenges will be acquired supplies. This means that all materials used for challenges must be obtained from mining, collecting or chosen from the Mini Builders’ Vault. As a reminder, you may not ask for the vault to be filled. Meaning, if someone was kind enough to drop off a chest of cobblestone to the Mini Builders vault, that is wonderful. But if that chest is empty, it is now time to visit the Mini Builders’ mine!
Each Mini Builder will be given their own personal vault at the Mini Builders’ Bank, Gringotts! Come on down to the Mini Builder’s area to check out this great build. Ride through the deep and dark vaults to discover the mysteries of Gringotts. You will get a vault assigned to you when you sign up for the Mini Builders’ challenge below.
In addition to Gringotts, there is now a Mini Builders’ garden, tree farm and animal farm. This should help fill up those vaults and keep you well fed during the challenge.
We will be having some mining parties! Join us on June 18th at 6 PM CST and June 20th at 2 PM CST to mine together and for some fun mining challenges!

So, you may be asking yourself, what do I do now? If you are a mini builder, take note of the following:

Sign up for the Mini Builders’ Boat Challenge below and you will be assigned a vault.
Join us for the mining parties on June 18th at 6 PM CST and June 20th at 2 PM CST.
Note that the boat challenge starts on June 22nd.
Start gathering supplies for the boat challenge

If you are NOT a mini builder:

Join us for the mining parties and consider donating the supplies you acquired to the Mini Builder’s Vault.
Consider donating any of your other excess items to the donation area, on the second floor of the Mini Builder’s building.
Invite your kids or your friends or your friends’ kids to join us for our first summer challenge. Send them to the server rules to get them set up and have their kids’ sign up below.

To access the Mini Builders’ area, Take the Mini Builders’ CB from the Mini Builder’s room adjacent to the Community CB room. (It’s the colorful one)

What are the prizes for the boat challenge?

1st Place: 3 enchanted books of their choosing plus a special set of diamond armor

2nd Place: 2 enchanted book books of their choosing plus a special set of iron armor

3rd Place: 1 enchanted book of their choosing plus a special set of gold armor

Every child will get a prize for participating!

Skyblock Returns

Friday, August 22nd begins our group’s 3rd installment of the Skyblock Challenge! The admin crew has built a new custom multi-player map just for the occasion and we’re excited to announce that we’ll be doing Skyblock 2.1 this go around. You can find more information about Skyblock and Skyblock 2.1 here. This server map is an adaptation created by the server admins. The concept and original Skyblock challenges/maps were thought up by Noobcrew.

What is Skyblock? Skyblock is a floating island survival map. On the server, your team will be assigned an island where you’ll be tasked with a list of goals to accomplish (with meager starting supplies) to win the challenge. As previously stated we’ll be using an adaption of Skyblock 2.1 with additional goals to make the experience slightly more challenging.

Rules:

Teams can be 1-3 players.
Do not purposely jump off the island to regenerate your health.
Do not attempt to make a bridge to the Island Hub, neighboring islands, or map edge. Each individual island is roughly 2,000 minecraft blocks away from the other. If you are found attempting to bridge islands or the other two areas stated you will be disqualified and removed from the whitelist. This rule goes for Overworld and Netherworld islands.
Overworld island can extend up to 100 blocks out from the bedrock block marking the center in any of the 4 compass point directions. You are not restricted as far as height is concerned.
Netherworld islands can extend up to 40 blocks out from your nether portal in any of the 4 compass point directions. You are not restricted as far as height is concerned.
If you somehow spawn on a neighbors island either jump off or use their cb to return to the Island Hub to access your island.

Notes:

Anvils and enchanting tables will not be provided for you this time around. You can purchase both, as well as a brewstand, at one of the Xp Shops for 50xp levels. KeepInventory is set to false so you will lose your xp when you die.
Two XP Item Shops have been set up to allow you access to materials you wouldn’t normally have access to during single player survival. One item, the brewstand, is required for you to meet certain challenge goals.
Instead of doing a pumpkin trade for dirt like we’ve done in the past you may purchase grass blocks from one of the two xp shops. One shop specializes in animals. If you are having a hard time getting animals to spawn on your island (and with the way the map is set up you shouldn’t have issues getting them to spawn naturally if your island is set up to spawn them correctly) you now have the option to purchase animal spawn eggs for an xp cost.
If you fail to set up your cobblestone generator correctly and lose your lava you will be given only 1 replacement lava source.
If you fail to set up your nether portal correctly you will not get a second chance to do so.
If your tree fails to produce saplings the admins will not give you saplings. You may ask other challengers if they have any they’d like to donate to you. **Helpful tip** Natural leaf decay seems to increase your odds of receiving saplings. A little patience goes a long way.
If you lose the sand and cacti from your sand island the admins will not replace them. You may ask other challengers to donate sand/cacti should this happen. **Helpful tip** Approaching the sand island from below is the safest option.
If you lose the mushrooms from your nether island the admins will not replace them. Again, you may ask other challengers for donations.
Your starting chest only has 2 items in it. As you progress to your sand island and nether islands you’ll “unlock” more chests with additional items.
If for any reason you lose your snow blocks they will not be replaced by the admins. You may ask other challengers for donations.
