GeocacheNuNuSmAs some of you old-timers remember, we have a geocaching center on Main. We thought it was time to bring this fun family centered activity to NuNu since it has grown so much! So announcing, Geocaching on Some Awesome – NuNu Style! Those not familiar with geocaching, let’s start with the basics.

2016-01-28_08.40.41What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is basically a treasure hunt! It exists in real life and it is a wonderful family activity. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

How do I geocache?

In the Geocaching Center, you will find a section for instructions (to the left), Geocache Book dispensers (up the stairs), the Trace your Trackable section (to the right and back) and a Hints center (to the right). You can access the Geocaching center by walking along the SOUTH road in the market.

Here is how geocaching will work: when you visit the Geocaching Center, go to the second floor and retrieve ONE book from a geocaching dispenser. You may do the geocaches in order or in any order that you wish.  This book must be returned (at the top of the stairs) when you have found your geocache. Please only take one book at a time.  In the book you will find coordinates and information about a cache. Using the x y z coordinates contained within the book, you can navigate to the cache to find the hidden treasure!  Each book also contains a hint on where the cache may be located. That might help narrow down a starting point for you.

Notes on geocaching and cache locations:

1) All caches are located in public properties.  Do not go on any private property to search for a cache.

2) No caches are buried. They may be underneath things so look around but you should not have to dig in order to find a cache.

3) All caches look the same. They are a single chest with a Geocaching Compass in an item frame on the outside.

4) Contained within each geocache is the following: a Welcome book for reading and putting back, a geocaching log for signing and putting back, possibly a trackable (see Trackable section for more information), and a number of items.

5) The random items in the chest are the treasure. However, the treasure system is take one, LEAVE one.  If you cannot leave anything, please do not take anything.

6) Always leave an area better than you found it! (Meaning, don’t destroy the area. Be kind to the geocache. Be respectful.)

7) Can’t find a cache even with the coordinates and hint? There are hints available as a last resort!

2016-01-27_09.32.30

Once you have found your cache, you have to return the book so it can be returned into the system.

2016-01-27_09.30.20What is a Trackable?

A trackable is part of a collection of items that remain within the geocaching system.  A trackable may be found in any of the geocaches.  You will know a trackable because it is named, numbered, and enchanted.  Trackables are meant to stay within the geocaching system and are NOT for personal use like the other items that can be found in the chests.  If you find a trackable, take it and return to the geocaching center to sign the log associated with the trackable you found. It will be your responsibility to place the trackable back into the system (meaning, go to another geocache and leave the trackable in that cache). It is OK if there are multiple trackables in a geocache. Please be respectful of the trackable system and try to return the trackable to a geocache in a timely manner. If you cannot, there is a hopper where you can place the unwanted trackable and it can be placed back in the system.

Ok, what else?

Please be respectful of the Geocaching system. It will not work unless everyone plays nice.  No griefing, PLEASE! And the most important rule, HAVE FUN! Having a hard time finding a geocache? Check out the Hint Room located in the Geocaching Center.  If you are interested in participating in making a geocache, contact Nancy Owen (dancingn27) and she will set you up!

If you find 5 geocaches or 10, sign your name on the Silver or Gold wall and contact dancingn27 (tag Nancy Owen on FB) for a prize! All participants should add their names to the main wall as well. Don’t forget once you found your first geocache, you can grab a Some Awesome Geocaching map!  Happy Geocaching!

Yub Nub! It’s time for an Ewok inspired May the 4th Celebration! Please join us today on Some Awesome Minecraft as we celebrate the worldwide day to say “May the Force be with you” to all, and celebrate the beloved Star Wars story that binds our galaxy together.

Today on the NuNu server, we will be opening up the Ewok Village Project. All those cute, fuzzy little Ewoks need homes/huts and community buildings. It will be your job to provide them. There is a storage bunker for you to stock up and supply materials. You will be provided basic building materials (wood/stone etc) but anything else and it’s up to you to supply. There are platforms and bridges in the trees for you to use as pathways, feel free to build off them, on them, around them, whatever the Force says to you. You may also build on the ground! Whatever you decide, please try to stay within the Star Wars/Ewok theme. (CB is located in the basement of Command Tower)

shuttle_endor_forestmoon_landingplatformWe also have two Challenge builds for you. Become a member of Gold Squadron and build the vital Endor Shield Generator. Or join Red Squadron and construct the landing platform and Tyderian Shuttle. Follow the gold or red light sabers outside of the bunker to each build location and good luck!

On the Main server we have the Mos Eisley Build from last year’s celebrations and the Rebel Command Base where all of the Star Wars builds on the server are linked. It is awesome and you should check it out. There also is a Jedi temple run to see if you have what it takes to become a Jedi. May the Fourth be with you!

Welcome to Some Awesome Minecraft’s newest original survival map challenge: Shipwrecked!

Now that you have gone down with your ship, you just might survive on the ocean floor. Your ship, & its remaining cargo, has come to rest near a colorful reef where you might find some useful supplies. Underground you are sure to find many resources to aid in your survival.

You are the Captain, locked in your cabin as your ship sank to the ocean floor.

You are the Captain, locked in your cabin as your ship sank to the ocean floor.

Listed below you will find the building, crafting, & collection challenges needed to setup your new undersea home.
You will have 2 weeks to complete the challenge, however there are prizes for the 3 individuals or teams who finish first! Read to the bottom to see your Bonus & Build challenge options.  Challenge runs: February 27th through March 13th.

NOTES:

~There are 25 ‘maps’ setup, with 1 to 3 people allowed per map/team.

~You will find a map in your starter chest of the *original layout* of your area. However, this map is not actually of your area, or it would only show water. It will not reflect any changes you make to your play area.

Generic Map for reference

Generic Map for reference

~There is no lava in this world. However, there is still gravel, so you’ll still want to avoid digging straight up.

~There are 4 mob spawners in each map space. They start off lit up to prevent mobs spawning & building-up before you uncover them. Each holds special blocks & items that you will need to complete your challenge.

Spawners

The 4 spawners & the special blocks they hold.

~When you find your special blocks (grass, mycelium, snow, & glowstone) be careful not to turn them to dirt or destroy them.

~Keep Inventory is Off.

~There are no Command Blocks (CBs) from your map back to Spawn.

~Any kids wishing to participate, must be teamed up with an adult.

RULES:

~Do Not alter anything at the Spawn & CB islands. No breaking blocks, bushes, leaves, torches, etc. Anything at spawn, belongs at spawn only.

Spawn Islands (aka a near death experience)

Spawn Islands
(aka a near death experience)

~ALWAYS keep your mob spawners lit up when you are not actively killing the mobs in them (the ones included, as well as any you may create). This will help prevent lag from mobs building-up, as well as allowing other teams to get their mobs to spawn when they need them. Leaving your mob spawners running constantly without standing there actively killing them creates frustration for the other players & will usually have to be dealt with by the admins.

~No Trading with other teams. Each team needs to complete their list on their own.

~Do Not go to the water’s surface. Do not place blocks, or otherwise alter, the water’s surface (or the ice on top of it).

~Do Not alter, enter, or mess with any other players’ or teams’ stuff.  The world is setup so that players only have access to their own maps from Spawn. You shouldn’t be able to get to another players’/teams’ place, so please don’t try.

**Breaking any of the above rules will disqualify you and get you removed from the challenge map’s whitelist.

Boys and girls of every age, would you like to see something strange? Come build with us and you will see, NuNu’s town of Halloween!

Starting Monday, October 27th, we will begin a Halloween build project. We will be reconstructing a town that has lived in our imaginations since we first saw Jack Skellington’s wide grin across our television sets (or the big screen, if you saw it there first). That’s right, we’re building a town inspired by Halloween Town!

here

If you’ve ventured outside the CT recently, you may have noticed an odd looking tree in an area you can’t access yet. Through the pumpkin doorway lies a magical gateway to our build site.

here2

Once the mysterious barrier is lifted and you enter the portal to Halloween town the very first thing you’ll see is the giant jack o’ lantern that serves as the build shack for the project. When you enter, you’ll notice the admins have not supplied you with any building materials (aside from some coarse dirt). We do have a list of recommended supplies we’ll need for the build. Those items are as follows:

Halloween Town Build Materials:

  • StoneWe’re looking for all varieties including: stone bricks, mossy stone bricks, cracked stone bricks, stone & stone brick slabs (you do not need to bring slabs, we can craft them from the blocks).
  • CobblestoneThis includes moss stone & cobblestone slabs (again, you do not need to bring the slabs, we can craft them on site).
  • Sand/Glass
  • Dead Bushes
  • Hardened Clay
  • Dyes
  • Cobwebs
  • Acacia WoodThe trees in and surrounding the town will be built out of acacia logs.
  • Dark Oak Wood
  • Dirt
  • ToolsIf you would like to donate tools to use during the project please feel free to bring them!
  • WoolVarious colors.

This is just a suggested list of items that will be key to the build. If you feel there is anything else we might need or have forgotten, please feel free to donate. However, it is important we all remember we are sticking to a theme.  You can find tons of images online for inspiration to help you during the build.

Halloween_Town

The admins have marked locations for the important builds that need to be in the town. We ask that before you “claim” one of those builds as a project you let one of the admins know before removing the marker (feel free to team up to work on those builds).  It’s important to remember scale as you’re building.  The island the town sits on isn’t small but it’s also not huge. We want to make sure everyone has plenty of room for their builds with some open spaces for trees and landscaping.

If all the “important” builds are taken do not fret! We need residential homes in Halloween Town. There are no markers for residential homes (aside from Jack Skellington’s) so feel free to find an empty area and get to work.

The build project will end on October 31st.  Take today to prepare and get ready for an awesome community experience through the following week! Some Awesome Minecraft community, is a world unlike anything I’ve ever seen and as hard as I’ve tried, I can’t seem to describe like the most improbable dream….how awesome each and every one of you are.

Have fun and take care,

~Ashley (aka Aurakiel)

P.s. When you get to Halloween Town, take a look at the top of the curly hill. There’s a special person we’re dedicating the project to who all of us (well, a lot of us) cherish like a member of our family.

Yay the 1.8 minecraft update is here!

We, like you, are really excited!

However as some of you may remember from the 1.7 update our server didn’t handle it well, Lag no matter how good your PC,  server crashing and heavy restriction put all over the server, at one point we had to turn off ALL fountains, Beacons, and there was NO exploring allowed.

Let me explain:

I won’t go into half as much detail as Chris, but one of the reasons our server works so well is the plug-ins we have, they keep it all running smoothly and we have a great deal of protection in place with these plug-ins.  Now with an update there is always a great delay in the plug-ins being updated too. With 1.7 it took nearly 5 months before everything could be restored and at one point it became unbearable to play on the server. With all this in mind we WILL NOT be updating the main server, until all plug-ins are updated too.

WELL THAT SUCKS!

Yes it does greatly! But hold your horses!

Over the next couple of weeks/days we will be preparing the alternate server to open up as a second Main server complete with the 1.8 update. This server will be a permanent feature, so  you can build, explore and create new community lots. With us not having as much control over the 1.8 server we (the admin team) have decided to take you completely back to Basics, meaning we’re going back to vanilla!

No Keep Inventory (you die, you drop your stuff)

Mob griefing will be ON (When that Creeper goes BOOM, he will mean business)

Were upping the difficultly! (no more easy mobs, RUN!)

….But because we’re a family friendly server and much rather promote a more community feel server PvP will still be off.

Ore Generation has been increased! (diamonds everywhere )

Admins will not be selling you anything!

You will Only be allowed ONE pair of CBs to and from the new(ish) Command Tower, and that will be all the CBs you’re allowed.

LAG! LAG LAG! I’m not going to lie the probability of great lag is high as we will have no plug-ins to reduce it, it will probably crash a lot too. So it is asked you take all lag reducing measure into account when you play. If you are unsure what these are, Please read this article.  If you are found deliberately causing lag admins will take matters into their own hands without giving warning!

Mob Griefing on:

With this on there will become a huge amount of creeper hole everywhere, you are asked to fill them back in! If you haven’t got the materials to do so my suggestion is to take a screen shot with your coordinates on and either ask an admin really really nicely or go back later and back fill leaving a sign to say you will do so. To take a srceen shot  press F3 to bring up your De-bug screen and then F2 to take a screen shot (to close the de-bug screen press F3 again).

Withers:

For the time being, until the server is established we ask no withers are spawned.

The End & Ender Dragon:

There will be NO access to the End until further notice, all end portals have been located and turned off. The loot has been left in the strongholds and should you stumble across one, the loot is yours but the strongholds will remain Server property.

Villages:

After some discussion we have decided there will be no Claiming of Villages on this server. If you find one, you are free to loot it, use it and even extend it, but it will remain community property and other players will be free to use it. This all said if you create your own village (with a couple of cured zombie villagers) this will be your property and not open for public use (unless you desire). There is also a village very close to spawn, that we would like you not to touch as we would like to preserve this.

2014-09-01_08.48.32

Underwater dungeons:

These are open and up for grabs, like with the Villages there is no claiming it all to yourself, but you are welcome to loot, destroy and take all the blocks.

PLEASE NOTE: Admins have located one underwater dungeon which is to be preserved, NOT touched, NOT even explored.

2014-08-29_19.03.24

I’m going to highlight this now in case it’s unclear, although we are taking you back to basics and there are some new rules, the old ones that apply on the main server will still apply on the new one. As always if you are found breaking rules, actions will be taken. If you are needing a re-cap on the rules then follow the link: http://www.gmmc.me/server-rules/

What does the future hold?

I would like to highlight this is in no way the end of our main server, in fact our hope is in a few months’ time to connect both worlds via a tether, this will either be in the form of a portal or Command block meaning you can easily walk between the two taking your inventory with you.

As you can imagine we are incredibly excited about this and look forward to explore a whole new world with you.

As always if you have any question feel free to comment or message us.

Last night I popped on the server, while I was happily going about my business I received a whisper from another admin telling me to go peek at another player’s home.

Now don’t get me wrong I know I have the reputation as the joker admin, but what I was about to witness had me literally on my bedroom floor laughing.

Someone (and I won’t name names) had teepeed this players home. Why am I sharing this with you all, because of 2 reason, 1st this is a work of shear genius and credit goes where it is due the creativeness of this is beyond anything I could dream up, 2nd it is just too funny not to share with the world.

P.S remember if you’re thinking of playing a practical joke on another player, that is fine just remember there is a thin line between grieving and funny 😉
