Rename your stocking with your IGN using the anvils, and hang them on the candy cane pillars surrounding the Christmas Tree. Item frames have been provided for hanging your stockings, but please do not remove them.

After Christmas morning you will be able to turn in your stocking for ONE Christmas wish. It can be any one item or enchant that you wish.

Only one stocking per person

It’s Christmas time once again and we’re bringing back Secret Santas! The Secret Santa area is in the giant Christmas Tree outside the Command Tower. (Yes you can finally go in there!)

If you weren’t here for last Christmas, here’s how we do it:
1. Grab a book, write your name in it & “Sign” it. (books provided)
2. Drop the book into the chest in the Christmas tree trunk.
We’ll keep the drop open for 1 week for everyone who wants to participate to get their names in.
3. Next week you’ll be able to get a random name back!
4. When you get the name, you get to come up with some goodies or fun build to gift to the person whose name you have!

***SECRET SANTA UPDATE***
December 5th

Attention! If you added your name (or had someone else put your name) into the mix for Secret Santa this year, you may now go to the Christmas Tree to collect the name of your Secret Santa.

PLEASE NOTE:
* You may only take ONE book.
* If you added your name to a book (or had someone else do it for you) you MUST take a book.
*If you are giving items (in a box) to your Secret Santa, let one of the Admins know and they can set you up with a locked box (and a key) under the Christmas Tree.
* You have until December 25th to build/give your gifts. They may ONLY be opened (presented) on/after Christmas.
* BE SURE TO READ INSIDE of the book you get. Some people signed books for others so the signed name, may not be the name of your Secret Santa.
* If you put someone else’s name into a book, it is your responsibility to make sure that person knows they need to log on and collect a name from the tree. If they do not, you will need to take an extra book.
* Please check the IGN doc to make sure your IGN is listed so everyone knows who their Secret Santa is. (Added by request of Mrs. Hope)

New server, new players, new children, new Mini Builders.

With the creation of our new 1.8 server it’s been decided by the fabulous admins to create a new Mini-Builders area for our younger players.

For those of you who are new let me explain: Mini Builders was created on our main server as a place for our younger players to build, farm, mine, and take part in their own challenges for in-game goodies.  The Mini Builders area is far out of the way in its own corner of the server and a community exclusively for the kids on the server.

Farms and the Mine: Two of the major lessons behind Mini Builders is trying to teach the new generation of players how to play the game and interact in a community. A farm and mine area have been prepared for the children to share. The “prepared” areas are ready for use, but the children will have to complete them in order to use them.  We ask you to encourage your children to do this as a way of introducing them to the community-feel we actively encourage on this server.

Supplies: On this server the children will be able to bring supplies to and from Mini Builders as they please. Community chests have been set up for them in their own safe house. The chests are for “All” children to use and not to be labelled for individual use.

2014-11-16_14.52.36

How to get there: A special room for the CB has been set on the bottom/community floor of the command tower. From here children will be able to acess the Mini-Builders area.

2014-11-24_22.02.12

The 1st challenge:

We decided to kick off the same way as we did with the old Mini-Builders: with a good old fashioned House building challenge. The children will have a fortnight (2 weeks) to build a house on their very own 20 x 20 plot.

2014-11-24_21.43.17

Rules:

One plot per child.

Children are not to tamper with other’s builds, nor enter them without express permission when the owner isn’t there.

Children are allowed to bring their own supplies or acquire them on the Mini Builders site.

Do not explore from/out past Mini Builders.

No Adults allowed!

Prizes:

As always this isn’t a race and the aim is to have fun!

Happy Thanksgiving neighbors!

Boys and girls of every age, would you like to see something strange? Come build with us and you will see, NuNu’s town of Halloween!

Starting Monday, October 27th, we will begin a Halloween build project. We will be reconstructing a town that has lived in our imaginations since we first saw Jack Skellington’s wide grin across our television sets (or the big screen, if you saw it there first). That’s right, we’re building a town inspired by Halloween Town!

If you’ve ventured outside the CT recently, you may have noticed an odd looking tree in an area you can’t access yet. Through the pumpkin doorway lies a magical gateway to our build site.

Once the mysterious barrier is lifted and you enter the portal to Halloween town the very first thing you’ll see is the giant jack o’ lantern that serves as the build shack for the project. When you enter, you’ll notice the admins have not supplied you with any building materials (aside from some coarse dirt). We do have a list of recommended supplies we’ll need for the build. Those items are as follows:

Halloween Town Build Materials:

  • StoneWe’re looking for all varieties including: stone bricks, mossy stone bricks, cracked stone bricks, stone & stone brick slabs (you do not need to bring slabs, we can craft them from the blocks).
  • CobblestoneThis includes moss stone & cobblestone slabs (again, you do not need to bring the slabs, we can craft them on site).
  • Sand/Glass
  • Dead Bushes
  • Hardened Clay
  • Dyes
  • Cobwebs
  • Acacia WoodThe trees in and surrounding the town will be built out of acacia logs.
  • Dark Oak Wood
  • Dirt
  • ToolsIf you would like to donate tools to use during the project please feel free to bring them!
  • WoolVarious colors.

This is just a suggested list of items that will be key to the build. If you feel there is anything else we might need or have forgotten, please feel free to donate. However, it is important we all remember we are sticking to a theme.  You can find tons of images online for inspiration to help you during the build.

Halloween_Town

The admins have marked locations for the important builds that need to be in the town. We ask that before you “claim” one of those builds as a project you let one of the admins know before removing the marker (feel free to team up to work on those builds).  It’s important to remember scale as you’re building.  The island the town sits on isn’t small but it’s also not huge. We want to make sure everyone has plenty of room for their builds with some open spaces for trees and landscaping.

If all the “important” builds are taken do not fret! We need residential homes in Halloween Town. There are no markers for residential homes (aside from Jack Skellington’s) so feel free to find an empty area and get to work.

The build project will end on October 31st.  Take today to prepare and get ready for an awesome community experience through the following week! Some Awesome Minecraft community, is a world unlike anything I’ve ever seen and as hard as I’ve tried, I can’t seem to describe like the most improbable dream….how awesome each and every one of you are.

Have fun and take care,

~Ashley (aka Aurakiel)

P.s. When you get to Halloween Town, take a look at the top of the curly hill. There’s a special person we’re dedicating the project to who all of us (well, a lot of us) cherish like a member of our family.

The Plan

Because of the glitches with the existing 1.8 map (a.k.a. Alt Server) being world-based and currently unfixable until we get a Mojang patch or Bukkit 1.8 comes out (or, on a less priority level, an MCMyAdmin update for the restarts) we’ve decided to run a little test. This test was borne from the idea that a new new 1.8 map would fix the severe lag and disconnect problems some players have been experiencing lately. Basically it involves setting up ANOTHER 1.8 server once we’ve put the main server to bed for a while.

I can’t guarantee that this will fix everyone’s problems though, especially if you:

• Have a slow internet connection
• Are thousands of miles away from Atlanta, GA (where the server is hosted)
• Are playing on a crappy computer
• Have issues with Java

…so we’re going to run both 1.8 servers side by side to find out just how much a performance boost is granted by running the clean map. If it runs significantly better, and everyone (or at least a good majority) agrees that it does, we’ll be putting the existing 1.8 map on ice until, yes, Bukkit 1.8 comes out. Then we might revive it, who knows? But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

The Process

The new server will be put up on Sunday afternoon, October 5th. This will be the day after we have the Going Away Party for the main server. Once it is activated, you can tag me (Christopher Morris) in a post asking to transfer your player data over to the new server. I’ll turn keepInventory on so, in the event you spawn into a mountain or something, you’ll still keep all the stuff we transferred. Then you’re on your own. If you live through the ordeal, I’ll transfer you to spawn. If you suffocate in a wall somewhere, you’ll end up at spawn anyway, so no biggie.

You’ll only get one opportunity to transfer your player data, so please make sure you have everything you want to take with you when you make the request. Your player data will include your inventory contents, enderchest contents, your XP, and your equipped armor. It’s recommended that you put an enderchest in your inventory prior to the move. You will not lose this stuff on the old server either, we’re just making a copy. This server is not guaranteed to stick around unless the benefits are tangible enough to warrant keeping it. That’s all I’ll say for now.

The Rules

If you haven’t read the rules yet for 1.8, I suggest you do that now. There will be NO COMPLAINTS accepted if these guidelines are not followed. Please make sure you understand them, and if you are a little fuzzy about where to build or what you can do when you get onto the new server, ask an admin in-game, or tag one of us in the Facebook group. We can only help you if you want to be helped. By this time, I think we’ve all figured out what has gone right and what has gone wrong with the 1.8 server, so it should be a no-brainer this time around as to what is the best way to approach this little do over. But just in case, here’s a quick summary:

• There’s an area outside spawn that you can’t build on. Don’t build on that. In fact we may just make spawn protection cover that whole area, we’re not sure yet. We’re working on the details, we want to make it as simple as possible not to mess this up. Plenty of headaches from this issue the first time around

• If you want to claim property, build a fence completely around it. If you don’t have enough fence to properly outline your property, you’re not ready to have property. Work on building fences first, then your house. Try to get far enough away from spawn that you don’t have to worry about other people encroaching on your land. You will get ONE command block to the CT, and ONE command block to your vault. You will also get ONE move to cash in at any time, so if you want your command blocks to be in a new place, make sure you’re REALLY sure about your new place.

• Your vault must be smaller than 5000 cubic meters (one block is a cubic meter)

• If you build a hidey hole or temp shack to stay safe for the night, and you do not want to take it down in the morning, please put up a sign labeling it as such. We’re aware that it takes time to destroy structures, time you may not want to lose as the daylight passes, and admittedly, it will be useful to anyone who wants to explore at night, so these temp shacks are beneficial to the players, but we don’t want to be guessing whether this little build is supposed to be permanent or not. So if it’s just a one-night-stand sort of thing, please hang a sign that says so. That way, anyone wanting to commit to that property can tear it down if need be.

There are some other basic rules regarding animals, redstone, spawners etc. If you care about any of these things or plan to build or breed, please review the actual article. The bullet points above are really the most important, but there are plenty of things that couldn’t hurt knowing, so please get yourself acquainted.

The IF…

Hypothetically, if our test were to come to the conclusion that the new new server is a much better choice, you might be wondering what will happen to all your old stuff on the old map, provided we decide to take it down.

There’s a number of things we can do to make sure you keep it, namely:

• Offering the map up for download
• Putting it away until Bukkit updates to 1.8
• Letting you take some of your stuff over to the new server (see above)

But these decisions are still weeks away, let’s get to a place where we can figure out what is best for everyone first.

The Final Decision

We don’t know what this is yet. We’ve got 3 weeks to figure that out. We’re hoping we don’t have to take the other server down, 5 weeks of work is a lot to up and get rid of, but at the end of the day, the capability of everyone to play and have fun is our #1 priority, so we’ll do what we have to, and this test is the best way to find out.

As per usual, if you have any questions, feel free to comment below or in the group. And thanks for being part of such an important chapter in our history book.

Finally, I know a lot of you have expressed a desire to help with the cost of performing this test. I ask instead that you support our Extra Life team this year, that would mean a lot to us.

Onward and Upward,
~Serverus
